Module 01 · Know Yourself First
The Mirror Exercise
The most honest 30 minutes you'll spend on your love life. Part one builds your dream person. Part two asks who you actually are — with questions you haven't seen before. The gap only reveals itself at the end.

Why start here
This isn't a wish list. It's a revelation.
Most people can describe their dream partner in detail. Almost nobody has honestly asked whether they are currently the person that partner would choose. The Mirror Exercise makes you do both — and shows you the distance between the two.
Part One — The Dream
Rate your dream
Star-rate the qualities that matter to you in a partner, across 10 areas of life. Mark one true dealbreaker per category — not aspirational, not ideal. The one real non-negotiable.
Part Two — The Mirror
Answer honestly
A completely different set of behavioural questions about how you actually show up in life today. You won't see part one again until your results.
The Reveal
See the gap
Every question pair, side by side: what you dreamed on the left, what you answered about yourself on the right. Where the gap is widest — that's your most urgent growth work.
After the mirror
The gap is information. The next step is a decision.
The Mirror Exercise shows you where the work is. The Conversation Deck helps you and a partner surface alignment before you're too attached to see clearly — and The Foundation is where people doing this work together actually do it.
Questions
Mirror Exercise questions, answered
What is the Mirror Exercise?
The Mirror Exercise is a free self-assessment from Foundation Before Forever. In part one, you rate the qualities you want in a partner across 10 categories. In part two, you answer a different set of honest questions about who you actually are today. At the end, the exercise pairs your answers and shows you the gap between the partner you're dreaming of and the person you currently are.
How long does it take?
About 30 minutes: 120 questions across 10 categories, split between the two parts. Most people move quickly through part one and slow down in part two — that's by design.
Is it really free? What's the catch?
It's completely free and there's no account to create. The Mirror Exercise is the first step in the Foundation Before Forever path — if it's useful, the Conversation Deck and The Foundation community are there when you're ready to go deeper. No pressure either way.
Who sees my answers?
Nobody but you. Your answers stay in your browser — they aren't uploaded, stored on a server, or shared. Close the tab and they're gone.
Is this for singles or couples?
The Mirror Exercise is designed for one person at a time — single or in a relationship. It's about your self-awareness, not your partner's. Many couples take it separately and then compare what they learned using the Conversation Deck.
What do I do with my results?
Your results show where the biggest gaps are between what you want and who you are — that's your growth work, named and ranked. Many people take their top gap straight to the blog's practical guides, or bring it into The Foundation community to work on it with others doing the same.
